But as far we know only Roger pirates were able to get the knowledge of Red Poneglyphs and get to Laugh Tale therefore truly knowing the whole history.
Oda is everytime making us belive things that are later proved incorrect. Zou arc was all about that. Later betrayal plot of that Scabbard I forget the name. Vegapunk death but his mind still alive. Those are just some examples.

I'm questioning if Vegapunk truly knows the story without ever reading the Red Poneglyphs and going to Laugh Tale where Roger crew stated they finally understood the whole story.

Red Poneglyphs can have more than just directions. They may explain why laugh tale is different from example.
Rio Poneglyph is rumored to have all the story. And Rayleigh said people can have different interpretations of it.

There are a lot of possibilities, he might have been a giant or a half giant, there are a lot of humans that live a long life, maybe he is a buccaneer or he's allies or successor continued the fight and the conflict lasted 100 years.
An other possibility is that the 100 years period is an era of conflict culminating with Joy Boy at the end of it.
