Controversial Kaido's drunken, deep-blue form WAS his awakening.

On a serious note, I don't think this form is significant enough to be considered an "Awakening" but I definitely prefer it to his default Hybrid one.
One could consider it similar to the purely animalistic awakenings of the Impel Down jailers, but you have to remember:
1- Their DFs are a different type (regular zoan vs mythical zoan)
2- Kaido still retains more consciousness and mental sanity unlike the Jailers who go full beast/animal mode
3- If its really his awakening, then there would be no need for two separate hybrid forms with different designs, and the latter one should be his default hybrid at all times since its stronger and faster.

I interpreted it as Kaido, while being drunk, being able to tap into what resembles awakening. I guess his mind didn't really catch up to his DF because his brute, violent and merciless nature is in contrast to the benevolent nature of the azure dragon. While the alcohol helped Kaido to alter the state of his mind. Which of course isn't the same as true awakening in all forms.
