People were shitting on Kata for staying in Totland instead of going after the BBPs to free his sister Pudding, but Kata’s not an idiot. He knows that the BMP remnants would lose if they attacked another Yonko crew on their home turf. The BBPs are strong enough to be considered relative to the BMPs at the peak of their strength, so obviously they’d stand no chance with their Yonko captain, Big Mom, gone, and a good chunk of the crew (Smoothie and co) MIA.
I’ve long speculated that Kata is potentially going to be recruited to CG for various reasons.
1. CG needs Road Poneglyphs if they want to catch up to the other Yonko crews. The WCI RP is by far the easiest to locate and get a copy of, so it makes sense that it would be the first one CG goes after. They would have to encounter the BMP remnants in that case, and either take it by force or obtain it through diplomacy.
2. CG needs much more manpower if they want to catch up to the other Yonko. Recruiting Kata (YC1 level), Cracker (YC3 level), Snack and Oven (Vet level), all of the headliner level Charlotte siblings, and the tens of thousands of BMP fodders would make CG start to look like an actual Yonko crew. Not to mention all the territory and resources they’d get.
3. Totland is much less safe without a Yonko protecting it. The BBPs probably wouldn’t have raided Totland in the first place if BM was still around. A lot of other pirate crews might try raiding the outskirts of Totland without a Yonko as deterrence. Joining CG would deter pirates from raiding Totland since it will once again be under a Yonko’s protection.
4. Kata is a fan favorite character, so I’m sure that Oda would like to bring him back into the story somehow. Allying with a Yonko crew is probably the easiest way to do that. They obviously won’t ally with the BBPs, there’s no good narrative reason for Kata to ally with Shanks, and although Kata may respect Luffy, the rest of his family hates Luffy’s guts since he’s largely responsible for their loss in status, so allying with the SHPs wouldn’t make much sense either. Also, Kata isn’t a Luffy fanboy like many people seem to think.
I think it’s also worth noting that all of the Yonko crews, except CG and the BBPs, have some personal connection with each other. The SHs have beef with the BBPs, and Luffy has history with Shanks. The RHPs and BBPs have beef with each other. CG has a connection with the RHPs since Shanks has history with Buggy and Mihawk. CG also has a connection with the SHs since Buggy and Croc are former Luffy opponents, and Zoro is trying to surpass Mihawk. However, there’s no connection between CG and the BBPs. Buggy has no real history with BB, and neither do Mihawk or Croc.
Oda could establish a personal motive for CG to fight the BBPs by having Katakuri condition his allegiance to CG on them helping him retrieve his beloved sister.
