Right? Its so petty, forced, immature etc. Odas writing of the SHs pre TS was fantastic and the humour was much better. Sanji was my fave pre TS along with Luffy (followed by Brook once he came along) and Oda is doing a MUCH worse version of Sanjis and Zoros rivalry from the be beginning of OP now, but with Sanji and Jinbei.
Ironically he wrote some hilariously brilliant and some genuinely awesome moments for Zoro and Sanji together at Wano too. But then he goes and does this after the raid is over and Wano is ending.
Now Oda is completely shamelessly brutalising Kidd. Its almost like he threw in that line about Heat calling Sanji pathetic before, so he could justify what happened to the Kidd Pirates here, well especially Heat begging for mercy/help, as he made fun of Sanji for doing back at Onigashima and thus "karmic irony".
I know some people will enjoy that parallel/irony and thats completely fair, but man this is just a truly sour chapter Oda has given us. Seeing how genuinely upset other Kidd fans, the major stans especially that we know of on here ofc but also people who aren't even Kidd fans calling this out and saying the writing is terrible is speaking volumes too.
I've tried to defend this chapter and Shanks, but its not fair on Kidd and the others from me too, its kinda hypocritical. Oda should have let Kidd gotten to fight Shanks and actually get demolished after trying to disarm Shanks and his crew, let Kidds crew have a bit of shine like Laws crew vs Blackbeard and have Shanks show, that Kidds DF is not enough to defeat him, even with awakening.
Oda just decided to speed blitz this encounter though, just like how Shanks did to Kidd. Almost like he just wanted to get it over and done with or and just wanted it to be specifically more unfair, biased and ferocious to wank Shanks even more.
Kidd's backstory being left out for a SBS, Oda saying he expected Kidd to be far more important and a main character and so on, it fucking stings man. How he's writing Kidd lines up very strongly with how utterly unlucky William Kidd was IRL and thus his unfortunate death too and I fear thats where Oda is going with Kidd too potentially, hes just gonna have him wiped out and killed.
I expected Blackbeard and his crew to be the DF users who died by drowing on-screen but I swear to "Goda" if its Kidd and Killer at least....I'll actually be genuinely furious, more than I ever have been before. Shanks demolishing Kidd would have been far better if Kidd actually got a proper fight with him. Kidd was dumb to try to open with his most dangerous/powerful and thus highest collateral damage attack too.
This is just like Kaido neg diffing Gear 4th Luffy when they fought for the first time all over again but MUCH worse. Or Kaido jumping Kidd as he did before that ofc and offscreening him.
Fuck man, this chapter is a bitter pill to swallow.
