To play into this a little more, I was arguing with @Fujishiro earlier that maybe the reason why Oda waited so long was that only super powerful Conqueror’s haki can bypass an awakened logia.

Mayne that’s why the scabbards literally could not damage Aramaki but Yamato could somewhat and Shanks could knock him out of his huge form.

Not even the scabbards, Yamato herself using AdCoC could not hurt him. He felt pain sure but took no damage or injury, he wasn’t bruised or bloodied. I still think Oduh will fail miserably at logia awakening but it seems like a consistent theme that these supposedly awakened logias can’t really take injury.

I mean them not tanking damage could also just be innate durability lol

He seemed to have a headache considering he was holding his head in pain and complimented her Haki.
So I wouldn't say he didn't get hurt by it, the damage just wasn't very high, which makes sense as Yamato was in base form just doing a normal ACoC strike.

Really can't see any way Kizaru's awakening is strong without Oda making it extremely random and not at all related to light so for that reason Oda probably won't make him awakened.

Going by Punk Hazard, logia awakening could just be much higher AoE and permanently altering the environment into their respective element, but for Kizaru that would just be controlling light over a huge area, with the only real practical application of that being induced blindness, which is shit and negged by CoO.
