The marines are supposed to be individuals choosing between the lesser of two evils. A lawful evil which the people live under a tyrants thumb or a chaotic one where the people live every day in fear of pirates and invaders.

The issue is where Oda tries to make morally good marines who spout nonsense about human lives. It makes them look hypocritical like Garp and Fujitora.

I think it’s worse for Garp than it is for Issho.

We’ve seen Issho protect fleeing slaves and almost attack Mariejois the first chance he got.

Garp on the other hand… dude was vacationing knowing there was a genocide lol

Oda should’ve made the CDs more morally grey. The Marines suffer from this because it’s hard to explain how they can support the CDs without them being either stupid or evil

Sengoku also knows the void history and the meaning of “D” but still chooses to be FA… Oda is going to have to work really hard to make the WG’e existence seem grey otherwise it’s a massive fumble

Once Fujitora condoned the use of test tube created children slaves for weaponry, I dont see him much better than Garp. Both of them have made horrible moral compromises and spout crap about being in the right.

S-Snake proved they were when she helped Luffy for the sake of love, something punk wasn’t even aware they were capable. Just because their slave collar is ingrained in them rather than something they wear doesn’t mean they’re not children slaves.

Yeah but that doesn’t explain why they don’t support the Revs. The Revs aren’t trying to create anarchy, they’re just trying to replace the WG with a better form of government

Instead of slaves and sex slaves, Oda should have had the CDs waste the WG's money to hire workers and prostitutes. They'd still be lazy parasites but they would be nowhere near as vile as they are in canon. Oda tried too hard to make the WG evil to the point it is comical.

Because the revs don’t fight pirates as often. Any marine who thinks they are just trying to make the world a better place should join the revs, not bitch about them (Garp), but if they just hate pirates and understand they’re not necessarily the good guys then being a marine is fine.

Is Ryokugyu even a CDs fan? He seemed pretty annoyed when that one inbred was pestering him while trying to fight the RA.

They don't necessarily need to be good, but I need a better explanation than basically "Blackbeard was just there at the right time and place" for joining the crew.
