They're not as similar as we may think.

First, Roger is more responsible than Luffy regarding his ''mission'' and ''destiny'', while Luffy couldn't give a damn about that.

Second, he was way more cruel than Luffy, just remember what he did to Squardo.

Luffy being Roger, I can't. While Roger said he wouldn't die, having that not be just symbolic and be because clones would defeat the entire system of inherited wills that Oda setup and invalidate it.

I just don't see him doing that.
