in the other mangas the protagonists were kind of bad or had a bad season (although I think luffy is rubbish) characters like Sasuke and Hibari are popular, here we have Zoro, but not everyone likes him

I think when it comes to very good characters like Kakashi the chance to surpass the protagonist it big, or rivals of level and importance like Sasuke (Zoro is not Luffy's rival and neither has equal importance, which screw a little with his chances of overtaking Luffy any time )

I see Shanks being the character to pass Luffy, in an arc with him... Kakashi style.
