General & Others Luffy, Kid and Law's "rivalry" seems to be very forced in the story.

It only feels forced with Oda all of a sudden in the Wano arc trying to make Law a rival to Luffy. Kidd has always had this kind of relationship with Luffy and it makes sense that they would clash due to their personalities and goals. Also I don't think that Oda wants us to view Kidd as equal to Luffy. More like a Goku Vegeta type rivalry where it's clear who 2nd place is tbh.

Law is a rival with lots of screentime and clear motives and broken powers, his DF was massively hyped and its hax highlighted countless times. A complete backstory that is contender for top and relevance to the plot through his secret name. He’s definitely a worthy rival to Luffy.

Kidd on the other hand is the antithesis of Law. Little screentime, motives unclear, and a DF that feels average at best, not super broken like Luffy or Law’s. Weak parallels like in Udon that hardly make up for the amount of interaction that Law and Luffy got together. But he might have more relevance soon through the man with burn scars.

It's Oda's fault for not highlighting the supernova captains trio properly. Like in Kingdom for example, Shin, Ouhon and Mouten got introduced as fellow rivals in the same state trying to compete for Great Generals status, and the MC Shin doesn't always shine all the time. There are times where Ouhon overtook Shin in terms of accomplishment and Mouten got spotlight over both of them at time, vice versa. So it's just depends on how the authors view the rivalry of each others.

I’m really lazy to search for them sorry mate, but to find Law’s panel where he claimed wanting the OP go back just a little bit before we got the time skip.
Found it. But what about Kid?

Anyway, Law never truly wanted One Piece. Just revenge Corazon. He was willing to die by Doflamingo hands in order to be sure either Admirals or Kaido would hunt him down.

Except Kidd and Law > Zoro and Sanji:cheers:
Kid and Law < Zoro alone. Imagine Zoro + Sanji.

I kinda see it as a means of having Luffy have interceding enough interactions with his peers even while being much stronger and it also allows them to stay relevant, seeing as they're competing with Luffy. Luffy's still above them, that doesn't change becuase of interactions.

Kid and Law were never meant to be Luffy's proper rivals (that'd be Blackbeard), just relative enough to establish the threat of the next villains and to make Luffy feel special by exceeding them.

It is indeed. That’s why I’ve always maintained it’s not to be taken too seriously. All these scenes of made-up competitions and frenemy banter are very clearly portrayed in a comedic light for a reason. That’s just how it’s written. In contrast to someone like BB e.g. where there’s deep animosity and a genuine threat, and it’s treaded as a future serious, narratively important clash.

Adv.coc G4 luffy will destroy kidd and law in 1 vs 1.
You mean, until Luffy reaches his gear 4 time-limit and gets stomped ? Also reminding that he's fighting two awakened pirates too.

I hope the time-limit is over now that he awakened. But you didn't mention the nika nika no mi in your equation...

I feel like Oda is doing everything to make us believe that Kid and Law are somehow equal to Luffy when that's not true.
Are u serious?
Luffy beat Kaido in a 1 vs 1.
Kid AND Law beat Kaido's equal in a 2 vs 1.

I think putting Kid and Law on the same level as Luffy on the bonus level is overkill, it's like they want us to believe they're on his level when it's not true.
No, what he is telling us with this is that they are and will be still relevant characters, top tier characters.
That's it.

You can genuinely remove Kid and Law entirely from the story and the only difference would be Oda would have to give Big Mom an actual ending instead of forcing her into Wano as Kaido‘s sidekick to write her off.

Kid’s role otherwise has been non-existent and even the trail of the story that goes PH to Dressrosa to Zou to Wano could be accomplished with just Momo and the samurai.
Imagine saying you can remove Law when he’s more important than most SHs in the overarching narrative lol. I can‘t remove Chopper because he’s good merchandise and that’s pretty much it. Law is a D, was a warlord, pretty much the protagonist for 2 arcs, beat yonko, etc etc.

Back on topic, Law was portrayed as Luffy’s equal. He had better feats back in PH; negged the SHs, beat the stronger opponent in Vergo. His performance in DR can be excused, he was always fighting 1v2, was fighting Doffy (who knows the best work arounds against Ope Ope). After all that, he still severely nerfed Doffy and it’s not like Luffy was having a cake walk either. G2/G3 was getting absolutely trashed by base Doffy, Luffy needed his first PU showcase for the first major villain in post-ts. Luffy still needed to go all out to beat Doffy. Honestly I don’t even see any yc2 pulling off what Law did back in DR. Jack would have been wiped off the island from Fuji’s meteor lol.

I think Kid was stronger than Luffy going into Wano but Oda missed the timing with him, he should have been given more screen time before Wano. Wano was the gateway to EoS so Luffy needed to get prepped. Law and Kid could just grow stronger the next time we see them again while Oda has to show and flesh out Luffy’s progress and powerups.

Also Luffy is the golden boy lol, he was always a gary stu. And seeing how DB is a big inspiration for OP, I think Oda was always intending for a Goku/Vegeta rivalry as the series went on.

No need of **** **** no mi.

And do you think Law and kidd can use their awakening without any time limit ? Lol!
Throwing metals to luffy won't do anything to him since he is rubber. Only Law has a chance to hurt badly luffy. But you seems to forget luffy has also ryou and FS lol...

He isn’t though.

The entire narrative leading to Wano is present with or without Law, through Momonosuke. Take him out, and what happens?

-The Strawhats still go to Punk Hazard. They still get into a fight with Caeser due to what he did to the kids, which puts them on a collision course with Doffy and Kaido. They still meet up with Momo and Kin, who setup Kaido.
-they still go to Dressrosa, only to rescue Kanjuro this time. Dressrosa happens the same way, because Law was irrelevant to the actual island of Dressrosa. The Riku’s still provide the antagonism with Luffy
-they go to Zou to meet up with Raizo. Luffy still says he’ll kick Kaido’s ass for Momo.

It’s pretty easy to see how the arcs would have flowed without Law, because Law was not planned. Literally the only difference is Big Mom being thrown into Wano, where she didn’t belong, entirely to get rid of her. And there was zero connection between Big Mom and Law. They had no story together prior to their fight. Oda could have had the Strawhats minus throw her off the island and it would have more buildup, at least half of them were on WCI.

He’s not even important for the future, he’s just strong male Robin who can’t actually read Poneglyphs.
I can‘t remove Chopper because he’s good merchandise and that’s pretty much it.
Remove Chopper and the arc of Drum doesn’t happen. And pre-skip, when we had a much smaller, more focused cast, is entirely changed.

Law’s just one part of an entirely bloated post-skip cast, and an easily replaceable one.

As for Kid, he’s just a non-entity story wise.

You know full well metal can be bladed too.

I hope Law and Kidd have ryou too. But anyway, my original point was that Luffy is above their league now that he is confirmed to be JoyBoy. Wether he'd be able to defeat Kidd + Law before his awakening is another matter

I still think something is wrong with this "rivalry" we don't feel any threat. Kid and Law aren't threatening.

And in influence, in feats, in individual power, in crew power, in fleet, in poneglyph Luffy has 3 and they only have 2 in addition Luffy has Robin for poneglyphs, former members of Whitebeard and Roger are all behind Luffy.

There is no competition.
