Look here clearly Mihawk abandoned his original intention when Don Kreig was up for the challenge. Mihawk is clearly afraid that he might lose his life and smartly ran away like a true coward

Mihawk had fun with a stronger Fighter than Krieg, Zoro, and sank 50 Krieg ships. Having defeated a stronger warrior than Krieg, Mihawk simply left, beating an even weaker fighter is not at all interesting. But Shanks was called a pirate disgrace because of cowardice.
