Even if they were in equal collab , It was mihawk who was going to get the title not Crocodile. It was mihawk was compared to Yonkou's not buggy or Crocodile.

Actually there's 2 small details that Oda posted about the difference between Shanks e Mihawk besides the one you posted:

1- VS Whitebeard
When Shanks met WB for the first time, it was treated like a meeting between equals. Actually it was clear in context that Shanks was the boss and something worth of WB. There was no need to test if shanks was at the same level than WB (he proves it later). He even asked WB first commander Marco to join as his subordinate and both him and Jozu are insurances in case of war- see here the video, is very similar to the manga- Video

Mihawk when he first met WB was not treated as a equal but a challenger. A inferior trying to see how far he still needs to go before the top. Instead of accepting the challenge he was stopped by Jozu. Notices how WB looks amused. It's fun. Notice that after this attack Vista was deemed enough to fight Mihawk. They didn't even send the guy that was immune to his attack. Worse yet, vista did it. If Mihawk wanted to test his strength truly he should have defeated Vista and advanced to WB. Someone could even commented like they did with Shanks. But, no. Jozu and Vista was enough.

The portrayal of shanks is a equal. Mihawk a challenger. Superior vs lesser.

2- Vs Akainu.

This one is even more subtle. First, look at how many Whitebeard commanders are needed to face Akainu (shame that Vista named attack is anime only.).

Now, here comes the fun part. Notices how Shanks stopped Akainu. He alone was enough to stop Akainu and he and his small crew was ready to face the full Navy and warlords forces. The guy that the YC1 of WB considered enough to stall Mihawk and managed to do so without injuries until they both decided to stop fighting.was one of those that faced Akainu in group and failed to do so until Shanks did it. The enemy that Shanks faced was superior to the one that was equal to Mihawk.

It's subtle but very funny if you think about it.
