Character Discussion Mihawk's quiet life

Why does Mihawk wish to have a quiet life when he clearly derived some enjoyment from being chased after marines? Back when Mihawk was younger did he just go around challenging strong swordsmen to duels and taking their lives when he beat them? He was known as the "marine hunter" but I don't think he actively went after marines, his body count was just so high the marines showed up to haul him to jail and he killed them in retaliation, this just created an constant cycle until the World Government made him a warlord.
If he wants a quiet life so much, maybe he should've thought about that before he started slashing people down to prove himself as the WSS. He has a 3.5 billion bounty and now he thinks making Crocodile's utopia dream come true will give him that peaceful house on a hill that he dreams of.

Oda needs to present a powerful af end goal for zoro while at the same time keeping the mc in spotlight. That's exactly why he gives all hype shanks has also to mihawk and wanks zoro by proxy.
The ultimate reason might be that Oda even at the beginning wasn't really sure what he finds cooler. Some Goku type funny guy or some serious type badass one. Evidence based knowledge proves the first type of mc makes more money. So he does both but the second one by proxy.

Mihawk's only interested in being the strongest swordsman. The strongest swordsman after him and long-term rival no longer interests him after suffering a significant injury. Thus, he's been alone at the top for years and he's bored as shit.
So he sits on his island or travels around on a solo boat, enjoying the peace and quiet because there's nothing more for him to achieve. If fodders bother him while he's chilling then he'll go so far as to follow them to East Blue to punk em.
He got excited for a second at the thrill of being chased by the marines again. Seems like that thrill quickly wore off. Now he just wants peace, even willing to turn down a Yonko position to keep it. So he's willing to help Crocodile amass strength and build Utopia so that no organisation in the world can bother him again.
Unfortunately, he's now been thrust into the race for One Piece. This directly contradicts his desire for a peaceful life so he was very angry. Luckily, there are two more things in this world that Mihawk is interested in - Zoro and Luffy. I'm sure he'd enjoy an opportunity to see them again.
