General & Others Misconceptions on Wedding Cake

#1
Since WCI is over we can fully analyse the cake plot and see if the plot was truly flawed.

Firstly the reason why the cake was made in the first

Reason the cake was made-

The general consensus was that Chiffon and Pudding wanted to create the cake to save the SHs. One because Pudding wanted to save Sanji. Two because Chiffon wanted to save Lola's saviours.

Ok thats fine and dandy. Now what was the orginal job of the cake. Their is misconception that cake was orginally made to make BM faint and let everyone run for the hills. However they explained that the cake is merely a distraction for BM to allow everyone to escape. They would have been used to lure BM around.

This means that Chiffon was always gonna distract the Big Mom with the cake to allow the SHs to escape.

So where does the fainting come from and what does it mean ?

Big Mom fainting-

Big Mom fainting was not part of the plan Pudding and Chiffon had, it was an extra part added by Sanji.

However the misconception here is that the cake has the power to knock her out. Nobody is understanding that the fainting is only because she enjoys the cake so much. Sanji has no malicious intent, nowhere has it stated that he wants her to be knocked out so they can escape....instead Sanji is expecting her to enjoy so much that she will happen to faint from happiness.

So people need to understand that the way the SHs were meant to escape was with Chiffon and co using the cake to distract Big Mom not with Sanji causing her to faint. The fainting is actually an after effect of just how good the cake.

And everyone denying that she didnt faint....she did.

Aftermath of cake-

Oda also brought it up again that after BM eats the cake her actions will be unknown. Showing that Sanji isnt an idiot and knows that the cake wont actually stop her

However he also states the Firetanks will use it to lure her away from the SHs to allow them to escape. Exactly what Chffon said she would do. I think people need to understand that the cake was only just a distraction and not a weapon to stop BM. It was for the SHs to escape with her chasing after the cake and her being lured away. Not with the cake knocking her out for hours.

Everything that came after being the Fishmen and Vinsmokes getting caught were their own fault. The cake was meant for the escape of the SHs. And it worked. The Vins and Fishmen were also for the escape of the SHs however the cake was never created to protect them....only the SHs. Sanji successded in creating a cake that was good enough to lure Big Mom away with smell alone.

Now here comes the bad writing part. As it wouldnt be One Piece without it.

The unneccesary hype-

Oda hyped up the fainting part even though it was not part of the plan alone nor was it needed at all. We werent even informed how long she'd be knocked out for because for the SHs to escape she wouldnt even need to faint. Her being lured away was good enough. However Oda had to hype it up to make the plot seem interesting to the viewers. And sure enough she did faint, however she mostly got back in minutes.....as again the fainting wasnt part of the plan but just a aftermath of how great the cake is.

Oda overhyped the cake plot and thats why it fell face down. However Sanji as a character accomplished what he needed. Sanji character's needed to create cake good enough to lure BM away, and he did create it. Sanji saying she will faint also did happen, however he never said how long and again it was overhyped by Oda keeping bringing it up.

Conclusion: Was the cake plot good ? Nope it was boring af.
However did it accomplish what it had to ? Yes it did.

Thank you all for reading:cheers:

It knocked her out from a state of insanity to a state of normalcy with her kinda fainting inbetween. Tottland and its inhabitants were saved from total destruction. And BM was lured away. But there's no way she would fall into actual unconsciousness once and for all, Sanji wasn't gonna beat a Yonko, I never bought that. Fans would complain about the hyped-to-heaven Yonko being beaten by something like food, and Oda knew it. But he also knew that he needed to spice the story up with the "unconsciousness" statement, so as to have us readers wait for something "exciting". And like you said, that's where the flawed writing came in. Oda knew what he had wasn't the most exciting plotline he's written, that's why we had Luffy fight Katakuri simultaneously instead of at the end of the arc.

It failed to achieve its primary goal which was to save all the SH and allow them to escape. Jimbei who is a SH stayed behind to allow the rest to escape. If all SH escaped then yes, it would have achieved its goal.

As for Sanji's goal for the cake, it failed as well cause he failed to knock her out. She was not unconsious.

No it actually didnt. Jinbe couldve escaped with them but he made the concious desicion to go back and protect the Fishman.

Its his own fault like I said before. They all could've escaped. If Sanji knew what was happening with the Vins he probably wouldve tried staying as well to protect Reiju.

So the cake did work. It was devised for the SHs and Jinbe abandoned them.

Maybe am forgetting stuff. If it is indeed as you say that Jimbei could have escaped then, the cake achieved its primary role

Jinbe stayed behind to protect the Fishmen. Not the SHs.

Protecting the SHs was also a pro. But he stayed behind to help the Fishman do their job and make sure they escape safely as well. He couldnt just abandon them and escape which he could.

Like I said
Wci was controversial but not the worse

Sanji did his job and stated everything

I just dislike how Oda hyped it as if this was Food wars with souma and co

Prepare yourself to have people who dont understand or dont even try to understand even when explained; those guys will come writing how Sanji is to blame, how Sanji is the reason why the others got caught, how Sanji cake failed even tho Oda didnt say BM will be totally K.O

merely a distraction for BM to allow everyone to escape
yet when Perospero told BM that the SHs had the cake it became the biggest driving factor for hunger pang BM to chase them down.
so it did the exact opposite of what it was created for. it lured BM to the SHs instead of away.

then, after it actually did lure her away it cause her to regain consciousness.
which was a blessing for the inhabitants of WCI, but a bad scenario for the SHs.

The cake plot was one of the worst in the series Imo...
It helped the antagonist regain her senses and healed her, maybe even gave her a boost (Sanji trained for two years for that).
Made me lose trust in what Sanji says from now on and retroactively as well.
Too long and too much ''wedding caaaaakeeee''
Not poisonning the cake was very meh eventhough it fits with Sanji's personnality. Mainly because killing BM would have saved thousands of people including the SHs and the backwards family he was insisting on saving.
Overall WCI destroyed Sanji from every angle and the Wedding Cake was the final nail.
