Luffy's best moments in the story have been his serious moments and how can we take Luffy serious in Gear 5?

- Luffy gets angry punches a celestial dragon
- Luffy vs Usopp
- Luffy "say you want to live"
- Luffy "I won't fall until I defeat you" to Lucci
- Luffy walk to arlong park

and just all the other moments where luffy has a serious tone towards a villain or situation.

How can we have moments like this with Gear 5.

That's my only issue with it.

I hope we get a different type of Gear 5 like a serious version of it at some point that brings back that fire in Luffy.

My first impression of G5 was so freaking bad, it honestly ruined the fight for me.
I like the gags mid-fight like Luffy taking Arlong's teeth Mizu Luffy, Gomu Gomu no Boh or chibi Luffy after using G3.
They all fit Luffy's weird ideas and actions + they don't take too long so the gags work for me.

G5 on the other hand tried too hard to be funny and didn't work for me. I really hated chapter 1045 because Luffy was taking direct blows for no reason other than making stupid faces, I mean Luffy literally saw the attack coming to the back of his head and was laughing fully aware of it and still allowed the hit for the sake of bullshit weird face.
Oh yeah, it also had that gigantic Luffy that could be amazing landing massive AdCoC attacks that served no purpose other than the jump rope shit. Such a frustrating waste of potential hits.

Thankfully Oda toned the bad comedy down a bit in the following chapters, but first impression was a disaster for me.

Things will change. The silliness of Gear 5 throws off the whole vibe. Dragon Ball Z did it better with Vegito he was silly but still looked badass. Luffy just looks silly.

Not saying anything, but not every culture is the same.
Just look at the first volumes of original DB, bulma's tits are out every so often, and it's a 95% gag manga with occasionally serious stuff.
Not all cultures are prude like american, where tits are a big no no but gore and violence is ok, sex outside of puritan's US is quite more common in media.

When he saw Sentomaru hurt by Lucci and he felt guilty,he seemed serious altough also cartoonish at the same time. By the way i imagine Luffy in the last moments of the final fight being in his base mode,so he can be serious,and then using Gear 5 again for the final hit (in which i think the theme of "laughter" could be very central) so the fight can be epic anyway in this way.
