Shanks's straw hat is ...

as a known Shanks fan people expect me to like the idea of "Shanks had the straw hat of Roger"

but I'm start to think otherwise base on last two years info

here is why

1- the straw hat is a symbol

Imu is staring at strew hat in the first time we get to see him

it's clear to me the leader of god is looking at the symbol of D clan

this should be the REAL STRAW HAT

the reason people like Roger and Luffy have this hat is cause strew hat is the symbol for D clan and they carry that knowingly or not

so since there is already more that 2 canon straw hat in story there is no reason that's all

there can be as man straw hats in world as there was a major D

it's 100% all great D members of their own era had a straw hat as symbol of freedom

2- the straw hat have meaning

Dark King Rayleigh is one of few people in the world who knows all

and he imply the straw hat have some deep meaning behind it and Luffy is WORTHY for having it

sure it can imply "well Roger had it and not it suit you"

but surly there is a high meaning to it

3- the respect to the straw hat

for both Roger and Shanks the straw hat was much more than just some hat

in fact Shanks carry that for at least 18 years of his life and Roger start his journey wearing that

maybe for different reasons but the straw hats were a great deal for both of them

4- the time line don't really match

Roger most likely didn't had his straw hat with him 38 years ago

it's unlikely he gave that to a 1 years old Shanks (unless there be some deep back story)

and it's unlikely if Roger just stop wearing his hat ... as we saw Shanks didn't let go of his hat until he found another worthy head for it

Oda showed us the version of Roger and he had a stable look for himself ... his hat here is his main hat that he were for rest of his life

so I would argue Roger let go of his original hat even Shanks was born

5- Shanks straw hat seem to be personal to him

seeing Shanks having the straw hat in age 9

and knowing Roger didn't hat his hat as a fact when Shanks was 1 years old

make me sure Shanks should had his hat ever since he was a baby

now either Roger gave that to baby Shanks in age 1 (cause he knew Shanks parents?)
or this straw hat belong to Shanks parents and Shanks had it before even he get to see Roger

so what do you think ... is Shanks wearing Roger's straw hat or a straw hat of his own birth right

Nah
It was passed down.
On many occasions, this hat was called with sorts of names that relates it to "old, relic, tattered...etc"
And the fact that Shanks handed the hat to Luffy, means that it's not what you suggest where every D. has one as a birth right.

And if there was ANY legitimacy to what you suggest. Oda would have AT LEAST, given us another line of people who have a SH by now.

Meaning, he would have given us someone like Law, or Saul, or someone else who is a D. who wears a similar SH. But they do not.

However, I agree that the SH is a symbol for something with a great meaning linking it to the Giant SH, which could have belonged to a previous king who lead the D.. Or some other kind of meaning.

I'm not saying EVERY D have it ... but some of them ... the same way Roger had it

it's unreal to assume Roger carried a straw hat randomly

and we are talking about a young Roger who knew only few thing about the world let alone deep truth of it

And who's to say it was not passed down to Roger as well. After all, he comes from a D. family. so, it's not farfetched.

But anyway, I'm open to the possibility. I'm just saying, I have not seen any clue of the tig you suggested, if it were happen to appear more clues of it, I am open for it

yes ... the passed on logic is still stronger claim

but I don't see it as a sure thing now ...

The straw hat has many deep symbolism and all points to the D clan.

The giant hat in mariejoie symbolizes authority and power.

The hat also symbolizes dream. Roger passed his hat to shanks - its like passing down the responsibility or his dream to shanks. Then it goes to Luffy which once again reflect that Roger dream has been passed down to Luffy from shanks. That's why shanks said to WB ' I waged my arm on new era'.

Luffy took out his hat and put it on a rock during time skip for two years. This reflect Luffy putting his ambition and chasing his dream to get one piece on hold for two years. It symbolizes that Luffy isn't ready to pursue his dreams as he isn't strong enough.

The material of the hat in itself symbolizes something. Straw hat is made up of straws like Panama hat of Ecuador. The material and process to make is quite simple. This reflect simplicity. Luffy, shanks and Roger seem to be down to earth and simple characters.

Another interesting symbolism is color red. Luffy and Roger wear red attire while shanks has red hair and straw hat has red strip. Red is the symbol of emotions, Will power and sophistication.

But we know that other D's do not share such similarities like Luffy and Roger.

So straw hat could also symbolize leadership or someone who is befitting to be the King.

I think straw hat symbolize freedom ...

and the The giant hat is in fact belong to an enemy of Imu ... so perhaps that The giant hat freedom in chain

Yeah this. The hat has great significance and stands for something larger than Roger and Luffy. But the hat that Luffy is wearing is the one that Roger wore and passed down to Shanks.

There was probably someone else who had that hat before Shanks, I’m sure there’s more about roger story to tell than just the final journey.
So we will maybe get Rogers own flashback at some point.
