But Oda said Zoro has always been planned to become one eyed. He's never going to open it. This is probably who Oda was referring to when he said there will be a character with an eye patch by the end of the series.
Then why doesn’t Oda just say he lost it?

I mean it’s easy to just say it? Notice the language of the Interview is Oda wanted Zoro to be one eye. He didn’t say Oda wanted Zoro to lose an eye

As an example, I can just as easily say Kenpachi Zaraki is a one eye character. And I can say Kakashi is a one eye character. If you don’t specify that Zoro lost the eye, then that statement is vague as hell... for seemingly no reason

crew bother to ask him about it tf

That’s just the shitty character writing in one piece. No one asks anyone anything

the scar clearly is not deep enough so Zoro ain't blind
Oda didn't explained the scar or even mentioned it that much
Zoro is yet to go full power

so ... 100% HE WILL EXPLAIN all of that

I don't know if that's a power up ... cause I'm not sure how "eye" and "swordsmanship" is related

but (and I hate to say this about one piece) ... One Piece is a shonen ... so it's safe to bet it can be a power up

p.s
beast mod is a baseless fan fiction cause we have no such magic system in one piece ... YET
but
I like a fun idea like this

its nothing and just a result of his trainig against Mihawk and baboons. Vol 9 already mentioned that
that's .... less fun

but we GONNA get the backstory

At thos point is has been an eternity since time skip happened. If somevody has to happen with his eye is when he will go all out so here and now in Wano. Yet considering how Zoro is a "pure" swprdsman I highly doubt Oda will tamper him after so much time with eye powers or other hax stuff.

Zoro would become a "one eyed" character. If his eye still worked and it was being closed for some "hidden power" he'd still have two eyes.

I was actually on the "eye power up" train because I thought Oda was just mirroring Rayleigh who's also a RHM swordsman with an eye scar.

But "one-eyed character" pretty much means no power up unless he retconned that idea.

Guess we'll find out soon cos if he doesn't open his eye against two Yonkou then it's probably because he lost it

Unless he's on some Itachi/Shisui's eye type shit and it only activates when he sees Mihawk :hihihi:

I would say not at this point, I think this is probably something oda always wanted to do, but given the circumstances, it is possible oda is actually going to use it for some sort of plot at this point. Could be just related to an important story during training. Or something like training with a handicap etc.. So I don't think oda would just silently change a design without mentioning about it or trying to avoid it when asked for even in series no one is asking him which clearly shows he wants to avoid its plot point. If there was none I would say he would have no reason to hide the reason of "I always wanted his design to have a lost eye".

Why the vague language "Become a one eye character"? Is it hard to say "Zoro willl lose an eye"? Is Kenpachi zaraki not a One eye character?

When I hear the term "One eyed" I think of someone who is actually missing an eye. I considered Kenpachi a one eyed character, until we learned he actually has two eyes. It just feels pretty weird to call him a one eyed character, knowing he has two functioning eyes.

Gojo from Jujutsu keeps both his eyes covered, but he can see, and has both eyes. I wouldn't call him a no eyed character.

And then you also have to figure that Sanji already has the schtick in the Straw Hat crew as being a character with two functioning eyes but always keeps one covered. I doubt Oda would do that with Zoro also.
