Break Week Oda has spent so much time on side characters, does he even know how to write Straw hats anymore?

Also to answer your question

Most of the strawhats are all already fully flushed out besides maybe some family connections and origins so there really is no major need to focus on them and take away from giving any new side characters a proper introduction

I ask myself that exact question sometimes.

It's one of the weaknesses of this post-timeskip, with non-Straw Hat allies taking lots of screentime compared to the Straw Hats not named Luffy, while neglecting their character development.

And what makes things worse is that most of these side characters aren't that interesting, some being even annoying or outright cringeworthy characters such as Oden or Yamato.

There’s a reason pretimeskip is leagues above post-timeskip in quality because it has that SH focus goodness.
I remember when OP was perceived as a better story than many popular mangas because it focuses on the entire crew, their individual ambitions, and adventures better than most. Now it’s doing the opposite hence it’s losing its charm and most those who stick with it are doing it in hopes of it getting back to its old good quality.
