This panel also caught my attention. Elbafs Advanced Navigation Techniques intrigued other countries. Do you think this was the Origin of the Log Poses we know of today?
You know, that's a interesting thought. That would kind of make sense. I don't think we've ever learned the origins of how or when the Log Poses started. And the symbol on Harald's compass that he's holding does kind of feel Log Pose-esque. With it being a star pointing in all directions.
But, I don't think so? Log Poses seem to work based on the magnetic field of each individual island. They don't seem to have anything to do with navigating by the stars.
Unless Lodestar ends up being related, somehow. All Log Poses supposedly eventually lead you to Lodestar. Maybe Lodestar could be a piece of the North/Pole Star that fell down to the planet? Crazier things have happened in this manga. But, something like that feels like it probably would have been referenced in the manga by now.
I guess the biggest thing to keep in mind is that Log Poses are still pretty unknown in most of the world. I mean, the Strawhats didn't even know about them until Crocus told them after they reached Reverse Mountain. They're well known in the Grand Line, but no were else. Because you can really only use Log Poses on the island of the Grand Line, for whatever reason. So...maybe the reverse is true in the Grand Line? In the Grand Line, everyone knows about Log Poses, but they don't know about "normal" means of navigation? Because most "normal" means of navigation are useless due to the weird weather in the Grand Line.
So, I don't think they're related. But, Oda could be planting the seeds for something, here. It's something worth keeping in mind.
