Not simply Haki as in Luffy being unable to pick up a sword and turn it black with strong Haki? Yes. You have to be a proficient swordsman who can use that Haki in a particular way (like Luffy uses blunt force barrier punches, Zoro uses it for more powerful cuts that block the opponents recovery). But it's Haki that is needed to forge it black.

As for skill, I think Zoro is more proficient, he relies more on cutting, while we saw Roger preferring to use a Haki barrier. But at such a high level it doesn't matter who is better anyways, since all of them mastered the sword to a high degree.

Zoro did not say he has barely any Haki left, he said that he can't fight much more than this, you're paraphrasing it into no haki left.


Fresh full Haki Zoro would be able to spam Asura but i doubt the potency would change much, so he would do more damage because he would hit more but he wouldn't do more damage in one hit imo.

I think zoro will learn to apply coc to his attacks down the line
so I dont necessarily agree with this take .
