Akainu got put down in two hits by a deathbed Yonko. He wouldn't survive 5 mins vs a healthy Hybrid Kaido.

He was never defeated, the man literally headed towards Luffy after intelligently resting for a while as the war was still long. That was his goal all the way all the time.

Meanwhile Kizaru was wiping the floor with Whitebeard and the notion he was a bad match up cannot be pinned as such an excuse.
