Sanji and luffy had a lot parralels, zeff and Shanks are one them, the "you won't be repaying any debt by dying" also highlights that

There's a difference between an actual parallel and re using a moment

There's a lot of other examples that are obvious parallels since some characters bond over that, unless oda is gonna give a special relationship between Yamato and sanji there's like no point in making her starve to death like that

Maybe Yamato will have a special relationship with zoro and sanji and be closer to them than the rest because her past has some similarities to theirs

If that's all we get from Yamato's backstory and she joins the crew then it's the worst strawhat flashback by far. Another one who got locked up by her daddy but without any nuance or depth. Oh look she wants to become Oden so bad and her father doesn't approve. Why does she want to become Oden in the first place? Because he is a Chad...

And Luffy freeing her by literally breaking her chains has to be laziest way to establish a connection between the 2, and of course she knows Ace

If what you want is a strong female character then let Hancock join the crew, at least she has a character
