Yes he didn't fight flame on King, in fact there was hardly any fight for that matter because we don't see any flames in the area and he literally gets stabbed in that very panel where he has no flames and no fruit abilities.

and Kaido is taking and absorbing gear 4 attacks like no shit while King is being downed by Marco's kick.

Marco's flammes probably affected king's which lowered his defense

King didn't even get a scratch from attacks that made kaido bleed, so he's objectively more durable that is when his flammes are on, when his flammes are off he has ulti lvl durability which is something but not really comparable to kaido's dura, overall kaido has a better durability since he doesn't need to sacrifice it to gain a speed boost
