I would like to believe that he left Momo in order to confront Shanks and not as they are currently making seem.

This could be a possibility as well but the spoiler provider clearly highlighted how it seems like Aramaki was running away from Shanks - after sensing his CoC - which I hope is simply a misinterpretation.
