I think smoker got the short end of the stick with his logia, it doesn't seem to have much offence power. He makes up for it with his skill but it still isn't enough
Smoker has all the right tools: logia power that is still pretty strong by devil fruit standards, skills, experience, sea stone jitte, story relevance. All he needs is for Oda to buff his haki and he's good to go.
Don't expect too much, you never learn from ZKK. zoro would probably get lost, or go to where luffy is, you know he can't stand not on the side of his boss
