People mix up remembering them like mindless beast as confirmation but actually in the road to laughtale volumes there was confirmation the jailers show the consequences of the risk of zoan awakening where the beast nature takes over so we do have some confirmation jailer beast awakenings aren't perfect like Luffy's.

Kaido said awakening is when your mind and your body catch up to your powers.
