I still believe that Yamato was originally meant to be Hyori (Tomboy wano princess that would connect with her brother and went missing) but it was changed later by the editor. Some of the earlier designs even look like her mother a little.
It also makes sense when you think about the speech to Momo in 1043. Think either Hiyori or Kinemon was supposed to be with Momo during the raid but Oda wanted someone who could fight and made Yamato
