Oda don't want to reveal Imu's gender just yet. So third person speaking is the solution.

big mom speaks in a way that used by males.

a women could refer to herself using the male I or the opposite in japanese, it doesnt mean anything.

authors use specfic version of I to show a chacater trait rather than gender, there is a childish I, an imperial i(which imu uses which is male but it doesnt mean much), there is casual I

Then why did Imu manifest so much anger? The gorosei didn't jump aside, they straight up transformed and were ready to fight. It's not a setup, it's false reporting / misinformation / twisting facts and Morgan unfortunately contributed.

Gorosei explictly said" your fate was sealed when you saw imu" to cobra so i doubt that fujitora or any admirals for that matter know about it.
