I doubt Banana head scarred Whitebeard. He might as well meant Roger, since Shanks was an apprentice on Roger's ship. Especially since Whitebeard continued talking about Shanks and Buggy as they were teens on Roger's ship.

Not only does Banana head not look like Shanks at all, we don't even know how he is affiliated with Shanks. Being from the same family doesn't make Shanks his son or grand son.
