Oden killed Kaido long before Kaido died. If Oda didn’t sacrifice Kaidos “Drag everyone down and make them prove their worth on the battlefield” ideology for “Notice me Oden-senpai !” He would’ve been a much better villain.

Luffy had to remove his hand post kaen hakkei. Kaido simply could have dodged BG and directly attack luffy's body.
