I still don't understand how Oda manages to draw clogged up chapters with basically nothing happening in them even though the events in themselves should be exciting enough. i feel like you could easily cut one third of egghead with no loss of information and without sacrificing the pacing of the story
Imagine working your entire life to make the art you want.

You have a wonderful story you love, and want to make, but it takes a ton of time to make it yourself. Even if others help you, it's still a struggle to live life while working that hard.

So, you work as hard as you can for twenty years, and then realize, your body's getting old, and this is probably your big work; Oda realized One Piece is his magna opus, or manga opus, I guess, and is now fully invested in it, but, still, wants to finish it so he can draw other stuff and live his life.

Think of Vegapunk as a character, a man with so many ideas, so limited by his own body, that he made six clones of himself.

This is literally Oda wishing he could clone himself so he could make One Piece better.

If it makes you feel better, Oda is probably 100 times more frustrated about things not being perfect than we are.

We spend 10 minutes reading a One Piece chapter and then like 10 weeks crapping on it; sometimes Oda spends 100 hours a week on one chapter, and doesn't have time to go back and judge it, it's on to the next one. It doesn't excuse the story's flaws, but, it's made me accept them. Dude is just old, tired, and overworked, and loves his story and fans so much his editors have to physically force him to stop writing. I have to respect that.

Oda's work ethic def deserves respect.
Paradoxically with a tighter pacing One Piece might have already ended so he could be enjoying his life rn

Egghead is going to be a good arc on re-read! Cuz it doesn't suffer from millions of fodders taking screen time like Dressrosa or Wano! Of course we have the marines and the giants but they are needed for the scale of the war, and thank god Oda isn't focusing to much on them.

People are just impatient, and transitional chapters like this drives them crazy (especially after 3 weeks without content). That said this is a mid chapter and could use a bit of progress in the plot, everyone except Nusjuro is in the same spot that they were last chapter.

But at least it seems Oda didn't clown the Gorosei this chapter so I'm fine!

Because every arc has multiple subplots now a days that Oda tries to push simultaneously so it feels like none of these plots ever go anywhere
You're right, but there is a second reason. Oda wants to connect events with goroawase, so some chapters he make the pacing bad because the next chapter he will connect something with a specific goroawase

Onigashima before rooftop battle begin was with a horrible pacing because Oda wanted to make the start of the battle yonkou vs worstgen in chapter 1000

Very well said.

Obviously there isn't anything wrong with sometimes criticizing Oda's writing or the chapter itself, but there are some people who don't even criticize but instead just go full on hate.

At the end of the day people like Oda and others like him are just hard working people like the rest of us, those who full on hate the man himself just because they didn't like something in the story or how the story is going, really needs to get a life and seek help.

Its cool because he give us the chance to predict what gonna happen in each chapter, but the price for that is the story becoming more slow

Another Kingdummy who can't follow any storytelling that isn't 400 identical Chinese guys killing each other in a big field
Lets be honest the story and the pacing is unbearable at this point and i'm not talking about Egghead only.. The only thing that somehow saved Egghead was the outside events.

Most of us continue to read this series because we are addicts, not because of "GODa's masterpiece".

I do not believe this. I think for example Oda fully believes that Zoro’s story in Wano was perfectly fitting and there was no bad storytelling or bad character writing regarding him in that 150 chapter long arc

Im not just saying this. Ive analysed Zoro’s entire wano story and come to the conclusion that Oda did everything intentionally…. As in everything you thunk was wrong with Zoro’a story in Wano was designed to make you feel that way by Oda… Oda wants you to feel that Zoro’s a disappointment who couldnt even live up to Ryuma’s legacy… Oda wants you to know that Zoro is so unimportant that his lineage is only worth an SBS… Oda wants you to know that this is Luffy’s story and Luffy is the new ryuma of Wano and Zoro’s just a henchman

i have gone into detail about this elsewhere but to me I realized that Oda is very intentionaly with his bad writing and he justifies it with “Its my story”… he even said as much when G5 was introduced… Oda knows hes retconing 1000 chapters of story… He knows people wont like this… He directly says HE DOESNT CARE and its HIS STORY TO DO WHATEVER HE WANTS

Spoilers are added but I don't see anything different or new(spoilers) compared to before the break :jay-yeah:

Ryuuma was irrelevant in wano because he wanted to milk him through wanted.. :beanmean:
