Some things are best left as one hit wonders. I'll always wish we had a sequel, but sadly the time for a sequel has passed, much like with the Goonies, so its best to cherish it for what it is without it being soiled by what might be a mediocre modern sequel that might not live up to the original and be happy we had the first and only masterpiece exist at all:

I doubt a current day sequel would live up to the original indeed, maybe if it came out back then too instead but alas. Sequels felt a lot better back then than they are now by far too.
