Mihawk wasn't lying. He said what he said and he meant what he said. There's nothing to it.
Shanks likes Luffy a lot, to the point where he gave him his hat and lost his arm to save him. Mihawk knows Shanks likes Luffy a lot. He still decided to fight Luffy despite knowing that.
That's why he said that. He didn't mean he would go all out against Luffy, just that he wouldn't try to ignore Luffy and let him do what he wants because Shanks is fond of him.

@Copenaker is deflecting because this chapter exposed Shiryu as not sniffing top tier level (meaning Zoro isn't either as he is going to have an extreme diff with Shiryu)

I do think he is a low top tier at least but what's a - hypothetically - Perospero (low high tier) in comparison to a Katakuri, Marco or even King (peak high tier)? Nothing.

It's the same with Shiryu and Kuzan. The latter is one of the strongest top tiers who battled with the current - and most likely strongest - Fleet Admiral about the same position.

What's Shiryu in comparison? Do people really believe Magellan's equal somehow surpasses one of the strongest top tiers only because he received a stupid invisibility fruit? Give Shiryu's sword a DF and he still isn't stronger than Kuzan.
