My personal theory is that reincarnation is real, and people hate reincarnation plotlines BECAUSE they don't want to remember their past lives.

For good reason, it's something people should tread lightly on. People get enough trauma from one life. You have to have a lot of mental/spiritual grit to deal with your past lives' sins and traumas as well.

The concept of reincarnation is just... heavy and tough to deal with.
