So was Nika an actual person? Or did he only became a thing (fruit) after people wished for him?

IMO, he was a real person (no idea what race, though). He was the first to manifest a DF, which turned him white-haired and able to make reality "elastic".

He was a normal person, though, with a lifespan, so eventually he passed away.

When, millennia later, evil started creeping about once more, people remembered Nika's story and people prayed that this hero returned to save them: which is how his DF was found.

And eaten by Joy Boy.

@Salah WG might be on the right track regarding that the true villain isn't even depicted here. You can't really tell who is the "main" villain in that drawing, you have several fractions fighting, some winged demon, some serpent and some dragon, and according to the lore, there were different gods (earth god, forest god, sun god). The question is, what or who is the main power source.

Since OP World has "One Piece" Treasure, that makes it like this Villain's Upper Yard, meaning this OP World is actually a Piece of it's own Kingdom, it's the "Missing Eye" of that Monster! This is why no one can find Ancient Kingdom & why WG don't want Studies about it,
(Oda even hinted at this by repeatedly drawing SHs on top of Dragon/Snake in Color Spreads)

It's not the Ancient Kingdom that is "Lost", it's this OP World that is!
And They are living inside a Second Kingdom that is this Serpent/Dragon (Similar to Laboon) hence why WG call themselves Celestial Dragons!
Because it's their Kingdom, so it's just like Skypieans vs Shandians, both have a Claim for this Land, you can't pick Favorites

I also mentioned before that Joy Boy being from Ancient Kingdom & his Story being called "Laugh Tale" is like Hiriluk's Story being called "Snowy Tale", so Ancient Kingdom was always covered in "Laughter", that's because that Monster is just like Brook, He wouldn't stop Laughing! It's basically Kingdom covered in Laughter

Who was the Nika that faced that demon in the picture? Since that demon is supposed to be the origin of the Devil Fruit powers, yet this person had the awakened power of the Nika fruit. So either it was an innate power back then not coming from a DF (or by manifesting the desire of having a piece of that power?), or DF already existed in the era of that demon, who created them, or maybe even before.
