Luffy even spelling it out that Gaban is Sanji's parallel. Oda's been pretty good to Sanji the past few arcs, I expect us to see Sanji display the Power of Love this arc. Maybe against one of the Holy Knights, especially if they end up calling the whole squad once things start going the other way.

Meh, at the end of the day Luffy did surpass Katakuri. And even Katakuri could be kind of an exception like Kizaru where Luffy didnt destroy his dream. But Kaido is like Doffy, Croco, Buggy etc where he knocked them into the sky and destroyed their dreams, which Oda says is worse then death for a pirate. It just doesn't make sense for Wano to be as long as it did without Luffy surpassing Kaido, especially when you consider how important it was narratively for Luffy to become a Yonko etc. Especially when you have characters in the story saying Luffy is the one who beat Kaido, while no one ever really credits Zoro or Yamato. I think its probably simple how Oda views it.

Luffy did surpass Katakuri... on Wano. Despite being comparable to him during the fight. That's what I'm getting at, I'm just calling a cat a cat.

It's not important that he didn't get clean fights over them, which whenever happens is done for a reason, he's still the one who beat all of them and he's still growing. These are not mutually exclusive statements.

Yes but Big Mom helped him against the 5 SN's and the CP0 agent did Luffy a favour to be honest 😅
Kaido fought against the Scabbards, 5 SN and for some time against Zoro and Law alone, Yamato, Momo and Luffy + he lifted up an entire island
Luffy had even a food break and got an insane power up
Kaido could even keep up with G5 for some time
