After rewatching the anime recently Queen and Yasuie HAAAAAAAAAAAAARD carried Act 2. I don't really know how to describe my feelings for it. Like, it's not bad writing, but it just doesn't come together.
In a lot of ways, the Beast Pirates are just so much more interesting than the people of Wano. They act like real individuals with personality, when both allies and enemies in Wano were SOOOOOOOOOOO Oden centric they lacked actual character at time. The arc was just too referential to Oden, there's no possible way Oda could have made a satisfying pay off after all the wanking.
Like, Denjiro. What is his character outside of loving Oden? His fake personality was INFINITELY more interesting than his real one. The moment the Kyoshiro act dropped, the only times Denjiro popped off was when he showed Sasaki his tattoo, and his jokes about how smart Kinemon was were hilarious.
There's a cool character there, but ALL THE FUCKING ODEN HYPE reduced the guy to just a dude running around Onigashima for a few hours until he kill-stole Orochi from Hiyoryi.
Don't even get me started on Izo and Kiku, I actually want to throw a sofa off a skyscraper and watch it land on a car, that then blows up and takes out like at least 20 pigeons in a feathery mess of despair.
I actually love Oden, but the problem with Wano is the same problem with Luffy in Egghead; One Piece characters are too interesting to turn everything into Luffy or Oden wank. Luffy wank was so bad in Egghead Jinbei might as well have not even shown up. Hell, now, I'm happy Carrot and Yamato didn't come aboard. THEY WEREN'T DOING ANYTHING IN EGGHEAD, LOOK AT JINBEI.
Look at Orochi. His entire life can literally be summed up with the words "Kozuki and Kurozumi."
Oda should have focused more on Wano as a country, not Oden as a mythological figure.
Elbaph seems to be correcting this issue, IMO. The Nika stuff we've gotten has been more lore related than ridiculous wank.
The weirdest thing about this is NO ONE has problems like this with Roger. That's how you know the Shanks, Luffy, and Oden shit is forced. When Roger shows up, people are hyped as fuck. One of the most well-liked characters in the series. The fanbase loving Roger, but getting so sick of Luffy, Oden, and Shanks wank, is proof the problem is Oda over-glorifying characters, not the fans being bitchy.
Luffy getting this much wank in a series where WE KNOW THERE ARE OTHER GOD CHARACTERS is just ridiculous at this point.
I'm actually scared the Ancient Weapons will be surpassed by Nika sooner rather than later.

my only complaints with queen is
- oda didnt have queen and franky interact, even if he isnt his son
- doesnt actually incorporate his illegal chemical warfare in his fighting, which would make him infinitely trickier to beat since he can just eventually one shot you unless you have the best doctor in the world next to you
