Yeah this is my issue with Garp, Oda tries to make him look like a "good guy" and moralizes him more than the other marines, but he's just as bad as all of them.

Like with Sakazuki the story doesn't try to make you think he's a paragon of good morals or whatever and make it clear he's (deeply) flawed. Same with other marines.

But with Garp the story is clearly pushing him as a righteous and cool character when he's just barely above Aramaki in ethics.

The difference is that the story doesn't pretend Greenbull or Akainu or Kizaru or even Fuji to an extent are righteous the way it does with Garp.

I suppose that's fair, but it does seem like Garp supports the CDs way less than the Admirals do. Kizaru was fucking steaming because he couldn't avenge Saint Charlos in Sabaody, meanwhile Garp gave 0 shits about the Rocks Pirates coming to lay pipe on the HK and normal CDs at God Valley. Literally only came there to fight and capture Roger.

Statements like that are just being thrown around to get more copies sold, they used the same shit to promoto Boruto like that. I don't think Kishimoto seriously oversaw any of these, that's my take.

Garp doesn't take direct orders from the CDs the way the admirals do sure but that doesn't make it better that he's literally sunbathing on vacation while he KNOWS they're committing genocide.

Like bruh in the "good vs bad marine" hierarchy he's obviously beneath someone like Issho or Smoker and is probably closer to the neutral-leaning bad marines like Kizaru overall
