Rocks is a maverick like Luffy

kaido & Bigmom are just overcharged warlords
The government feared Kaidou.
He refused to serve the government and the navy at just 10 years old while calling them dogs.
He holds a deep hatred for the World Nobles.
He wanted to conquer the world.
His territory was in Wano — a land the World Government tried and failed to take over.
He was building the biggest and strongest army in the world to conquer it.
He was seeking the Ancient Weapons to bring chaos and destruction to the world.
He accepted the alliance with Big Mom with the goal of obtaining the One Piece and conquering the world.

Yeah, clearly Kaidou was really tamed by the government…

I think the murdered admiral being Sakazuki's father or related to him somehow actually checks with a lot of portrayal.

Sakazuki's very first real characterization scene is about family.

Most of the Teach/Sakazuki panel parallels at the end of Marineford also make a lot of sense if both of them were "created by Rocks" (Blackbeard directly as his son and Sakazuki indirectly as a victim).

Please, God no.

Buggy killed them

I forgot. Isn't "Justice" written on his cap that he was wearing as a brat ?
Seems like he did get in touch with the Navy as a kid.

If I had to guess, maybe the backstory goes something like:

Rocks kills un named admiral aka Akainu's father.

Either the death was dishonorable in some way (back stab/failure to protect a CD/etc) or it's the first time an admiral was killed bringing shame to the WG and Navy.

Akainu's family is abandoned/humiliated by the government. Akainu has a brutal childhood. f

Akainu seeks to make up for his father's failure and adopts "thorough justice."

And it all ties back into the first characterization scene with him here:

They're hot tempered and ambitious and there's so many of them and only one Rocks.

A teacher sometimes has trouble controlling a class full of kids.
MR, I’m sorry, but I’m not getting on this train that Xebec is somehow better than Kaidou, Roger, and Whitebeard. They might be close, but he’s not above them.

Killing an admiral is something a serious Kaidou could do. Just take the Kizaru vs Luffy fight, and you can easily conclude that a bloodthirsty, serious Kaidou could kill Kizaru and close the gap while in serious mode — literally low-diff him when he’s serious.

@HeroesNZ

There’s a big gap between the Top Tiers, and I thought Kaidou had made that pretty clear — but people still keep acting surprised when it shows.
