You know, this line from Shanks - wagered on new era - reflects Shanks realized he isn't child of destiny and he's not the one who can take down Blackbeard..

All he's trying to do is stop BB before Luffy is strong enough... which explains why he went to wano and why he's consistently keeping tab on whereabouts of Teach.

Magellan wasn't child of destiny, but if there was no Shiryu, he would have ended Blackbeard Pirates' career there.

Shanks too, if he wanted, and if he was worried of Blackbeard that much, he should have defeated Blackbeard Pirates right there at Marineford. Or any other times before Blackbeard becomes too strong.
If he just waits and do nothing until Blackbeard grows strong enough to beat Shanks, that sounds really dumb move from Shanks' PoV.

Considering we know Garling fought in God Valley and Oda’s history of tying new ideas to events he wrote in the past I don’t think it’s as unlikely and you make it out to be

Wano and the Roger three day fight happened after God Valley, Whitebeard didn't have any scars. I highly Oda forgot to draw it the whole time.
