I just realized that Xebec killed an admiral as a side quest.

It was so "minor" for him, that Oda focused more on him kidnapping the Kings, meeting Imu and so on in the same event he killed an admiral

He was already drawn with a sword it was quite obvious

So was Big Mom.
There are characters with swords who used mixed type of fighting (Big Mom, Cracker, King etc to varying degrees), and there are characters who pretty much only use sword for combat (Zoro, Mihawk, Shanks, Ray etc).

And it was just a silhouette too, we know how unreliable those are in this series lol. Heck, Rocks even looked kinda different in the shadows. Blackbeard naming his flagship as "Saber of Xebec" was more reliable.
