I do believe Oda dishes out hype and dehype according to the trends of the fandom, really do.

Just because Oda hasn't revealed his past yet doesn't mean he is a fraud or didn't fight anyone. That is a dumb argument. That's like believing the heavyweight boxing champion of the world is a fraud just because you never witnessed any of his fights.

It's the same for the Marines. Just because Oda hasn't revealed who he fought in the marines doesn't mean that didn't happen. What we do know is that the marines weren't able to capture him. That speaks volume of his strength. This belief that he only targeted weak Marines is stupid. Think about it, we have something who is targeting and wiping out the marine forces and fleet admiral tells the public the reason they haven't stopped him was because he's a fraud and a weakling People will call the fleet animal a liar and a coward.

Mihawk was holding back against Luffy. It's dumb to believe the character who can easily cut a mountain size iceberg in half, that required the combined power of a yonko and admiral using hax and powerful df power to create, can't seriously damage a character who is weak against cutting attacks.
