Honest question: why are we even 100% certain that Garp's radiating CoC on that panel relates to using some never before seen ACoC barrier instead of, you know, the generic "CoC leaks from your body during a panel where you're supposed to look super badass and intimidating" trope (aka exactly what Garp's doing while roasting Linlin here)?!

Because we don't Garp preparing any CoC right before he is hit:

And in the panel with the explosion we don't see any haki streaks that would more than likely be used to indicate an actual clash between BM's attack and what would be a CoC haki barrier.

That's fair, I'm much more forgiving of them out of bias for pre TS and getting invested in them immediately back then. Something I deeply regret now ironically lmao. But the criticisms are completely valid just like the same criticisms of too many new characters being added of the blue post TS especially in the past few arcs ofc.

Oda said half of the Supernovas weren't supposed to survive the new world over the timeskip IIRC. Something to that effect. It explains a lot sadly. They weren't even his idea except Kidd at least, he was apparently incentivised by his editors or w/e to add them in last minute.

Its almost like Oda was setting up a replacement for the SHs back then to focus on as he's been doing with side characters post TS from various arcs for all these damn years lol.

I respect you not slandering them though, thank you. And your honesty too!

:BigW::sweat:

Although I gotta say, I'm so grateful for Oda for giving us Law and Bepo, as well as Kidd and Killer and I did really like what he did with Capone too. IIRC the Warlords weren't planned originally either, it was only the Yonkos who were planned for the story? And I guess the Admirals?

I really miss the Marines being the main ultimate threat and when it seemed like the Gorosei were the true rulers of the world, sigh. A single leader makes far more sense but I preferred the uniquness of 5 people leading instead. A lot of wasted potential there. Now they're just the (elderly) muscle, dogs of the real leader.
Law is easily one of my favorite characters, I may consider Kidd one of them too but to a lesser degree. But he's still pretty good, I just love his vibe and his pure "Fuck it, we ball" attitude. He's a real pirate.
Urouge is also cool but sadly has barely any screentime, I'm still very interested in him though and him being a Birkan means he has a good chance of appearing sooner or later in the story. I feel that the people from the Sky Islands and Lunarians have to be aliens imo.
Drake could be a fairly good and cool character but Oda hasn't done much with him and sadly he never had a real fight in Wano. He could have at least defeated Apoo on his own or defeated the CP0 agents, although I guess Guernica had to win that fight so he could interrupt Luffy's fight with Kaido and get the bounty picture of G5 (or was it the Joseph dude that got the picture? after all he was still alive and flew out of Wano during the final clash between Luffy and Kaido, and even though they claim Guernica got the picture I think Joseph makes more sense).
The rest I all have the same complaint for really, I like the concepts of them but in execution they're not that good mostly because of Oda not doing anything with them. Bege had the most screentime out of the weaker ones but even he wasn't that enjoyable. Also had the most mediocre power out of them.

This isnt new. In fact its been shown since Wano, CoC/haki barrier is a thing. Even Luffy used it against Kaido

The fact Garp has CoC sparks coming out AFTER taking an attack. As a pure hakiman theres nothing to do but conclude he was a exerting it for pressure (defense). Unless you wanna say he can't control his CoC well lol

The usual ACoA (or ACoA further ifused with ACoC) barrier haki has clear tells though.

It's something you actively radiate from your hands + it's depicted as a circular impact.

As for Linlin unleashing those CoC streaks while taking Damned Punk, I always interpreted that as her letting out CoC to further intimidate Law's / Kidd's crew fodder so that she can more easily overcome their bravado and suck out their souls, which she is actually seen doing in the same panel.

So I'm still not so sure ACoC can become this protective aura you're just passively surrounded with, tbh.

I suppose we should read God Valley as Frieza or Android 19/20 saga. I.E. the DBZ warriors (God Valley main cast) were all at the then known max power level but later on (Cell & Buu sagas) gained much more power and stayed in power until 70-75.

So much that the next generation (45-50 years old Doflamingo, Moriah, Crocodile and so on) couldn't take the OGs place and had to bide their time and scheme instead.

Before the Mid gen could make their moves on the now old OGs the new gen (20-25 year olds) started to catch up at the same time as those OGs declined due to old age and essentially skipped a generation that never got their flowers. (In other words it makes sense it's Shanks, BB, Mihawks and Buggys era now and by chance also Luffy, Kidd, Law, Zoro).

So what we see in God Valley, the 30-40 year olds (Kaido only 21), are characters on the cusp of entering their OP prime (≈40-60 years old).

But they still needed God Valley to gain haki bloom against each other and then the Yonko era fighting each other to make sure iron sharpens iron, at the minute they are all playing pirates having fun together at bars and not actively at war trying to determinedely kill each other.
