The food retcon is so dumb lmfao, as if Luffy as a fighter wasn't situational enough already...Does he need to carry a mountain of food for him from now on?

Besides, after all the power ups, food being the one making the difference...Not even Dragon Ball has done that, where Oda likely took his inpiration from and DB was already simplistic and sort of uncreative when it comes to power ups...

No it's not.
Food fueled him, but as far as I can tell, never outright powered him up.

And it's clearly not a gag since Luffy was staying back overfeeding himself after sensing Imu's presence, instead of straight up going for him as Luffy usually does against enemys...

Luffy didn't go after him because Oda needed to have a Loki vs Imu moment, stop overthinking One Piece is pretty simple. If Oda needs Luffy to be out of a fight he would get stalled against Cracker TODAY because the plot demands him to do it. Simple as that.
Not only that its not the first time Oda keeps Luffy out of a fight because he is eating.
So no there's not recon not anything, just denial that Luffy is strong.
