As pointed out by @Blazing Lion , they are missing in Dragon Damnation against Sommers.
They are CoA but from my perspective, still a complete mystery.

They are CoA or maybe a mix of CoA and Foxfire style. Because Sommers said that Zoro used ACoC earlier which was in Dragon Damnation but it didnt have the flames.
Its just a visual upgrade for Zoro fighting mode like G5 for Luffy and Exo/IJ for Sanji
Oda finds it easy to draw this than build on Asura as a fighting mode

I don't think it's just a matter of them being CoA, because we've seen Zoro use CoA countless times without the flames.

They seem some kind of precursor to ACoC.

Ζoro is hakiman this chpater because he doesn't know ,what he is doing. From here and onwards he won't do the same stuff,hence the agenda stays clear
