I think Oda is clearly planning on Luffy defeating Kaido on chapter 1000. War chapters don't last long so we got plenty of time, and he's trying to stretch it there by flashbacks.
End of next year, Kaido will be defeated it. Mark it down.
I can see why Oda chose to skip the remaining scabbards meeting Oden.
Maybe he wants to touch upon plots like Kawamatsu's mysterious race later in the story or if one of the scabbard is a traitor indeed then the premise of that scabbard joining could've given us hints to the traitors identity which again Oda could be saving for a moment in the current storyline.
Oda made a clever choice starting off with just Denjiro and Kinemon, both following Oden from a single event.

Looks like Oda is moving the backstory along at a brisk pace now. Oden's getting his loyal followers in tow and becoming a war-hero. All that is left is for Lady Toki to be revealed. Also not surprised that Izo and Kiku are related.
Nice to know Orochi was always a jerk. Back-stabbers usually wait until they endear themselves to their masters before they start double crossing to deflect blame. Not Orochi, man taking the first opportunity he can grab. :cautious:

I always thought the message Marco wanted to send to Luffy with Neko was about Izu. Maybe he's laying low in Wano and Marco knows his hiding place? Or maybe it's a warning about someone who'll turn out to be the traitor?
I personally doubt about it being about Izo or the traitor because the message was specifically made for Luffy. Just think about it, if it was about traitor or Izo, shouldn't Marco just told or warn Neko about it without mentioning Luffy specifically?
