Don't get the Roger hate.

The prophecy about Shirahoshi said she'll be led by a 'Man'.
Roger met Whitebeard & shared the history & the meaning of the 'D'. Whitebeard commented he had someone in his crew that has D. in his name (Teach).

At the Summit War, WB told Teach he wasn't the man Roger was waiting for.

WB probably thought Ace was the man Roger waited for & adopted him (Sengoku also said this at Ace's execution).
WB realized he was wrong after acknowledging Luffy & told his crew to back him up.

Also I have a feeling the one piece is like the Flying Nimbus on dragonball, you have to have a righteous heart to use it.

Roger probably thought him having a son, around the time the next Poseidon is born will fulfill the prophecy he couldn't.

This makes MarineFord war more justifiable. At the time, it made no sense for Marines to be executing a small-fry like Ace just because he was Pirate King's son when it risked an all-out war with WB.

Now, it seems that the decision to execute Ace was the correct one for Marines.
