And I guess he was executed for the crime of 'assassination and betrayal' as a result. Not by seppuku (the traditional samurai way), but by being boiled in oil (kaido's way, which I guess is based on a punishment that genghis khan used to execute people
Ishikawa Goemon the guy Oden was inspired by was said to have attempted the assasination of the Shogun at the time, Hideyoshi Toyotomi - or at least his story was associated heavily with this idea. He was caught and the method of execution was boiling alive. Not like the Japanese back then had to copy from others, they had their own inventive ways of killing people.
