Making it look like a character is dead only to have him survive isn't the same as the characters surviving the attack on-screen in the first place.

Well Oda made it look like Galley-La-Cie, the Franky Family and the giants were killed by the Buster Call and yet it turned out they managed to survive it (in addition it was in a completely ridiculous and cringeworthy way).
