WB is not luffy, Wb Care the most for his CREW/FAMILY. And going in a war to avenge a ex crew member ia nothing alike going to a war to SAVE a crew member.

Oden was DEAD, ace Alive. Whitebeard going to a war against other younko wouldn bring hum back oden, would only bring more losses.

Yeah... this arc is not a masterpiece, the stuff with oden was weird(dancing for 5 years, letting the country to suffer just because he was a nationalist prick..), the stuff with bm and her amnesia was just a plot device, last 15 chapters were mainly luffy climbing some stairs.
Now this stuff with wb.

This arc has its flaws (act 2 and off screen) but I still find it fun and it brought a lot on the most interesting part of the one piece lore with developments on roger kaido ace whitebeard the discovery of rocks ect. I hope we'll have good fights against the kaido crew and a satisfying end, and if it's the case I'll consider it's a great arc
