I didn't notice any difference un his voice where I saw it. Maybe it was something on your end or maybe the VA decided to make subtle changes to his voice this episode because of the changes the character is going through.

Finally figured it out. My phone changes the pitch to the anime voices horribly. Watched it on PC before.
